What is Male Pelvic Physiotherapy?
Male pelvic physiotherapy is a specialised and evidence-based approach that can address a range of conditions that can affect the pelvis. Many of the changes may be attributed to the shifts in how muscles function around the male pelvis, including the pelvic floor muscles. Due to several factors such as age, injury or surgery, muscles of the pelvic floor may not be performing optimally for health.
Male pelvic health conditions can encompass prostate cancer, pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, anorectal disorders and sexual dysfunction. Like their female counterparts, pelvic physiotherapy may be an option to help identity the problem and devise a plan to assess and treat the complaints.
Your physiotherapist may also work simultaneously with your treating physician such as your general practitioner or urologist to help guide you through your therapy and ensure the necessary tests are performed prior to commencing any kind of treatment.
